Maybe youre learning to shred Sweet Child O Mine, to nail those elusive Van Halen licks from Eruption, or the awesome opener to AC/DC’s Back in Black. Or maybe you’re composing your own track, and you want to experiment with it and share those ideas with the band. Whatever your style, if you play guitar, Capo Touch was built for you.

Get started by loading up your music to your iPhone or iPad. Downloaded to your device in Apple Music, or put your own sound files into the Files app, which can sync between your devices and other services. Launch Capo Touch and tap the plus sign on the top right to choose from all the songs you just loaded.

When you open a track in Capo Touch, you’ll see the waveform, get the key of song and the chords laid out for you. To really hear what’s going on you’ve got to slow things down – or change them up. Pop open the control strip on the bottom left to look at all the elements you can change – and harness some of Capo Touch’s real magic.

Try the looping tool, which makes it simple to isolate the part of the song you want to focus on. Change the speed and listen as Capo manages to play the song much slower – or faster – without altering the song’s pitch. That lack of distortion means you can perfect every note.

But what if that song you’re learning is just a bit high for your vocalist? No worries, just change the key. Pick it by selecting Pitch in the control strip menu; Capo recalibrates the entire song for you, at the granularity of the semitone level. It’s a beautiful thing.

Hone in on the elements you want to hear even further by tapping the Playback menu and choosing the isolation button (looks like a fork) to mute or isolate the music’s foreground. Use the mixer button to set turn down, turn up, or turn off the vocals, notes and chords, and metronome.

Once you’ve opened a song in Capo, all the settings and alterations you’ve made get saved to the file, so you can open it on your other devices, so wherever you go, you can study that track until you can play it to the last note.
