The night sky is mysterious and difficult to decipher. A mess of stars linked together in hard-to-remember constellations and planets that rise and fall at different times – not to mention man-made satellites and planes catching the last rays of the setting sun.
How do you tell them all apart? Let Star Walk 2 be your guide: this pocket planetarium presents you with a navigable map of the night sky orientated to your perspective, removing the mystery while holding onto the magic.
Hold up your phone and move it around and the app will present you with a map of the stars that should be hiding in the night sky above you. As you move around the virtual night sky, the constellations are fleetingly sketched to show you why they are so-named. For lucky people using the app away from built-up areas there is an AR mode that helps you identify the exact stars you can see twinkling above you.
You can click on individual stars to find out scientific and historical information and information about specific satellites and constellations is made available through additional in-app bundles.
The app is beautifully drawn in spacy purple hues and accompanied by a sonorous sci-fi soundtrack that makes it feel like you are about to embark on an astral journey. The galaxy is now at your fingertips.
