You’ve had a scrumptious dinner out and now this: the bill arrives. Here begins the shuffling through pockets or handbags, choosing the right credit card, remembering your PIN... but there is a better way.

Liven is an app that takes the hassle out of dining, leaving you with all the tasty stuff: from searching for a restaurant, to sorting out the bill, with the pleasant bonus of collecting loyalty points.

Once you allow the app to use your location, the home screen serves you up restaurants nearby, ordered by their proximity. There’s also a handy map function that helped us find the closest dumplings to the office (sometimes there’s an urgency). Alternatively, scan the list of cuisines and tap on your favourite to see all the nearby restaurants of that cuisine.

When you’ve finished eating, you can use the app to pay for your meal in-restaurant, earning LVN rewards – the app’s currency which can go towards purchasing future delicious meals. Liven also allows you to gift your rewards to charities of your choice, which can make you feel good about yourself (despite having eaten a mountain of sweet potato fries). 

Getting started with Liven is easy. Sign up for an account and if you already have Apple Pay set up, tap to confirm and you’re ready to eat. Alternatively, add a credit card or Apple Pay any time through the Wallet within the app.

Liven is currently operating in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with over 1,000 cafes, bars and restaurants signed up, but will be looking to expand in the near future. And with payments made with a simple tap through the app when at the till, the only thing left to concern yourself with is: dessert or no dessert?
