What we love: Forest incorporates game elements to give you that extra motivation you need to stay focused. Tap Plant to start your timer and plant a seed, which will grow while you work or study, and after 25 minutes – a pomodoro – it will grow into a tall, strong tree. Exit the app before time’s up, and your sapling will wither. Keep your focus to help your tree sprout and grow. Before you know it, you’ll have grown a lush virtual forest!
Quick tip: Need a little external pressure to boost your productivity? The app’s Plant Together feature lets you plant trees with friends or family, and if any one of you picks up your phone before time’s up, everyone’s tree will wither! Don’t lose sight of the forest for the trees in this high-stakes study session!
Meet the creator: Marcus Pi and Amy Jeng started Seekrtech and launched Forest while they were studying at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. And their wholesome tree-planting journey didn’t just stay online; they partnered with Trees for the Future, a non-profit environmental organisation, and by mid-2021, they have planted over 1 million saplings in Africa.
