The digital sketchbook Paper by FiftyThree has long been one of the quickest ways to doodle, draw and quickly jot ideas down on an iPad or iPhone. The app focuses on simplicity, providing a basic set of pencils, pens and paintbrushes to mark up its virtual pages.
An update to Paper maintains that ease of use, but adds more flourishes and helpful features.
With a subscription to Paper Pro ($5.99 for six months), you’ll also be able to add custom covers to your notebooks, with vibrant designs ranging from spare and modern to ornate and detailed.
Subscribers can also copy and paste from one notebook to another, and soon they'll also be able to sync everything across multiple devices.
Another Paper Pro perk coming soon: step-by-step tutorials on topics including basic drawing skills and creating diagrams and charts for work.
There’s one major upgrade to Paper that benefits subscribers and non-subscribers alike: improved speed. FiftyThree entirely rewrote the app for iOS 11, making it faster and more responsive. Launching Paper, flipping through pages and drawing with digital ink are all more fluid and satisfying than ever before.
