Hit the Light - Neon Shooter

Satisfying stress killer

Clink, crack, crash! Glass breaking isn’t usually a good sign. But when something is obliterated into smithereens without consequences, it’s enticing.

That’s why the sounds of breaking glass you’ll hear in Hit the Light couldn’t be more (oddly) enjoyable. There are obvious similarities to breakout-style games here, but instead of blocks, you’re tasked with smashing up a neon sign on every level.

Hit the Light offers a well-stocked arsenal of things you can strategically propel at your target. If you think it seems like a shame to destroy such cool signs, you’ll soon get over it when you find it’s really rather exhilarating. Watch as that sleek ninja shuriken you’ve just launched returns like a boomerang, while your accurately lobbed bomb takes out an entire portion of the glass – what’s not to love?

As you progress, it gets trickier to wipe out the entire sign with your line-up of things to throw; taking a moment to contemplate your strategy before firing will help you hit everything (which is immensely satisfying). Perhaps start by ricocheting the metal balls and clear as much as possible, then precisely flick your spinning ninja shurikens and finally aim your bomb.

All this smashing gameplay is matched only by the gorgeous neon signs. The intricately designed skull with guitars for ears and the owl with the hat are beyond cool, and you’ll find yourself eager to see what the next one will be level after level. But maybe not quite as eager as you’ll be to wreck them!

If you’re looking for a light-hearted twist on a familiar concept, Hit the Light might hit the spot.
