To start, select your language from options including Spanish or Afrikaans, German or Korean, Dutch, French or Hebrew. Then there are several different ways to interpret your surroundings.

Firstly, there’s a voice translation function: simply speak clearly into your phone’s microphone, and the app will dictate a translation to you, or you can read it from your phone.

There’s also a text translation function: tap out the phrase you want to conjure and the app will do the hard work for you.

Now, here’s the magic bit. Open your camera, hover over your surroundings and smart augmented reality (AR) technology will ‘translate’ the world around you: tagging objects so you can learn the vocab building blocks quickly.

Snap a pic to do the same: a smart way to get a handle on menus, signs or maps. There’s also conversation mode, which enables you to speak, in real time, to someone who knows the lingo.
