Description
In 2017, ensemBle baBel was invited by Xavier Veilhan and Christian Marclay to record and perform in the French Pavilion at the Venice Biennale for art.
Inspired by the architecture of Kurt Schwitters’s Merzbau, Xavier Veilhan had transformed the pavilion into a recording studio. During recording sessions, the audience was free to walk through the space and among the musicians.
This app, created for a baBel performance at Basel's Gare du Nord, places this improvised music around the city, combining musical exploration with geographical exploration.
Walking Basel is a preview of larger app that will provide more interactions with baBel's recordings in Venice.
