Minimalistic logic challenges
Inspired by technical drawings, reky’s crisp, elegant looks make it one of the most immediately striking puzzle games we’ve ever seen. Amazingly, it plays just as well, using simple ingredients to concoct a series of deviously clever conundrums.
Each stage seems to be part of a giant, elaborate structure. It’s either an interactive piece of modern art, or a playable instruction manual for the most complicated piece of furniture ever created.
Yet your task is straightforward: simply guide a tiny, bouncing blob along these pristine white surfaces to an exit door. The only splashes of colour you’ll see here are found within certain cubes, which are moved with a swipe.
You can absorb these colours by tapping when you’re on top of a cube, and often you’ll need to transfer the absorbed hue to a blank one – again, with nothing more than a tap – so it can move. In most cases, you’re filling gaps in the path so you can cross over to the finish. But the cubes can only slide so far – sometimes you’ll need to absorb the colour and then release it back so it can move further in the same direction.
That’s just one of a steadily evolving palette of brilliant twists. In another level, you’ll hop back and forth between a pair of cubes, which become steps climbing up to the exit. Soon, portals come into play. And don’t forget the bonus challenges, which invite you to complete a stage with the minimum number of moves... Ambient washes of sound and gentle chimes for every input give reky a wonderfully relaxing feel, even as it leaves you scratching your head. It’s a masterpiece of design in every sense.
