Get started: Angry Birds Dream Blast

When it comes to furious fowl, we’re used to flinging them into pig-infested buildings using catapults. Angry Birds Dream Blast, however, trades catapults for bubbles, immersing its grumpy stars in physics-based puzzles.

The concept should be familiar to fans of match-three games: line up two or more bubbles and tap to pop them. Forget the tidy grids of most puzzlers – the bubbles in Dream Blast bounce around, creating unpredictable groupings.

Each level has a different requirement. You might be tasked with breaking open locks to lower eggs to the ground in one level, while another might have you popping away dark clouds.

Dream Blast empowers you to solve each level within the set number of turns, but even the happiest of birds can use a lift now and again. Start off on the right claw with these handy tips.

Save your boosters
Boosters – a cool name for potent Angry Birds bubbles – are key to success in Dream Blast. Pop four or more same-coloured bubbles to create a Red bird, which handily destroys a horizontal row of bubbles. Merge two Reds and you’ll make a yellow Chuck, which explodes a bigger chunk of the board. And two Chucks make a Bomb bird, which’ll clear the entire screen in an epic blast.

Pro tip: try to save up Boosters and let them float around a bit. Blowing up bubbles shuffles the board and may ruin combos you’ve yet to merge.

Pop methodically
Keep in mind that where you pop bubbles determines the bird’s spawn location. See six purple bubbles clumped together? Be mindful of which one you pop to create a Red bird – it will appear wherever you tap. Think ahead so you can spawn Reds near one another – this will give yourself a better chance at merging them into Chucks.

Stir it up
Many levels feature a windmill that stirs up the bubbles, constantly changing their position. It’s tempting to ignore this and focus on the bubbles lower down the stack, but time it right and the windmill may stir up longer bubble chains. There’s no time limit in Dream Blast, so be patient and see what happens.

Use those power-ups!
There are three power-ups in Dream Blast: the Shooting Star, the Slingshot and the Shuffle. Understanding how and when to use each can have a big impact on your success.

The Shooting Star, for example, blows up a large area of bubbles, while the Slingshot can be used to strategically remove one bubble. The Shuffle is a real life-saver when you’re out of good matches and need a last-minute attempt to clear the level.
