Marvel Contest of Champions

Super Hero Fighting Game

View

Marvel movies have brought us so much: intertwining storylines, epic character arcs and gags aplenty. (The Thor stuff in Endgame? Genius!)

But, ultimately, every single one of these films ends with the same thing: major Marvel characters beating each other up.

So, if you’re looking to recreate these epic skirmishes, there’s no better game than Marvel Contest of Champions. It’s a ludicrously in-depth fighting game starring almost every Marvel hero and villain you could think of. And the more you play, the more of these characters you’ll unlock. So put your dukes up and get ready to rumble!

Marvel movie spoilers ahead – you have been warned!

Captain America vs Iron Man

They might have kissed and made up pretty quickly afterwards, but all of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War builds up to one thing: a stupendous stand-off between Cap and Iron Man.

In Contest of Champions, there are multiple styles of each hero: Iron Man is playable in classic and Infinity War flavours, while Cap has classic, WWII and a beardy Infinity War variant.

“I can do this all day”

Nebula vs Gamora

Sibling rivalry doesn’t get more intense than the one between Thanos’ adopted daughters. They beat each other up in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as playing pivotal roles in the Avengers films. But they make up in the end, which is nice.

Interestingly, based on how character types in Contest of Champions work, Gamora has the upper hand in a one-on-one battle against her sister. Nebula is a “Tech”-type who is vulnerable to attacks from Cosmic-type characters like Gamora.

These two don’t hold anything back – Thanos would be proud.

Black Panther vs Killmonger

The climactic showdown in Black Panther is among our favourite fight scenes across the entire MCU. No crazy weapons, just a straight-up scrap between the titular hero and rival Killmonger.

And just like in the film, in Contest of Champions the twosome are very evenly matched; they are both Skill-type characters with signature moves that absorb and reflect back enemy attacks. It’s the vibranium suits, y’see?

These rivals are both quick, skilful and able to absorb plenty of damage.

Hawkeye vs Black Widow

Avengers: Endgame’s mountain-top battle between old pals Hawkeye and Black Widow is among the strangest scraps in the MCU. Eventually, Black Widow “wins” by outwitting Hawkeye to deliberately plummet to her death in exchange for the Soul Stone. What a hero!

Thankfully she’s alive and well in Contest of Champions, and is a Skill-type character, just like Hawkeye. So they’re evenly matched in terms of class, but not in moveset: Black Widow has stealthier, assassin-like moves, while Hawkeye is all about sheer firepower.

‘Precision cruelty’? Sounds nasty.

Spider-Man vs Mysterio

Jake Gyllenhaal’s charismatic turn as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home was so good that for a moment, like Peter Parker himself, we wanted him to fill the Tony Stark-shaped hole in the MCU.

But then normality resumed and Mysterio was back to being a baddie. For extra Far From Home authenticity, in Contest of Champions you can unlock a “Stark Enhanced” version of Spider-Man – and Mysterio looks just like he does in the latest spider-slinging epic, too.

Pit a ‘Stark-Enhanced’ Spider-Man against Mysterio to relive Far From Home.
