“Complete the first stage” wouldn’t normally qualify for one of our high-score challenges, but Geometry Dash SubZero isn’t like most games. The latest in a line of terrific music-based platformers, SubZero brings the same toe-tapping intensity as its predecessors but with more power-ups, tricks and OMG moments.

Thus our challenge to you: beat the first stage, appropriately called Press Start.

Yikes! Nothing like a giant chomping skull to keep you moving.

‣ The Geometry Dash series is known for its incredible tunes and the track for Press Start is no different. It’s the type of track you’d love to have stuck in your head – which it undoubtedly will be as you hit that retry button for the hundredth time.

But don’t get discouraged! Here are a few tips to help you blast through the intro stage and beyond:

Learn the course
· As with many games, knowing the landscape is key. Allow yourself to experiment and fail so you can create a mental map. Certain blocks auto-jump, while others invert gravity. You’ll need to learn sections one at a time, then put it all together.

Crank it up
· SubZero’s music and level design are inextricably intertwined. So listen closely and use the musical cues to help guide your every jump.

Tap and hold
· Like The Impossible Game (the series’ precursor), this block platformer is all about timing pixel-perfect jumps. But not every jump requires a separate tap. Some sections are built around tapping and holding, allowing you to pull off perfectly spaced leaps that look impressive but take very little brainpower. Identify these sections and use them as mid-level opportunities to collect yourself.
