Patolli is one of the oldest games in the Americas, reportedly having been played by both the ancient Aztecs and the Mayans. Montezuma himself has been said to have played it. At the time of the Spanish Conquest, it was outlawed. The design is said to have close ties to ancient calendars as well has have religious meaning.

Bad beans result

Its great to have an app to play patolli, the only option for IoS. The app itself is great but the results in the beans are a great failure. There is a reason the game uses beans instead of dice: the odds of every result is different. In a dice every possible outcome has 1/6 chance. Throwing beans its like: 0: 1/32 1: 5/32 2: 10/32 3: 10/32 4: 5/32 5 (walk 10): 1/32 Thus the probabilities should be calculated like that. It affects a lot the game strategy knowing that 2 or 3 are the most likely results. The problem is that we often get a 0 or 5 in this roll making the game unplayable as those should be rare outcomes. We lose a treasure to the pot 6x more frequently that way. So a game that could last 200 rolls lasts only about 30 rolls. The game also doesn’t offer any customization in rules, board or pieces. It isn’t available to play multiplayer online.

Overall great app and gameplay but really bad odds that should be fixed. If it were I would even buy something in-game. Unfortunatelly its impossible to contact support of the game devs
