Enhancing your photos doesn’t need to rely on the blunt force of filters. Instead, Nichi lets you improve things with a delicate touch.
Named after the pronunciation of the Japanese word 日, which is about recording and cherishing the everyday and “feeling the miracle of time”, Nichi is about scrapbooking to make visual stories and collages.
The app is very minimal, presenting you with templates to help you get started. You can personalise the templates’ colours and layouts, add stickers or photos and place text using the supplied handwriting fonts.
You can apply different textures to give the impression of various paper stocks, and your photos can be filtered so that they look like nostalgic camera film. If you like the look of what you’ve done, you can then save your scrapbook or collage not just as a finished document, but also as a template that you can use for future entries too.
Filled with beautiful layouts, Nichi’s templates are well designed, and while they cover a variety of designs they all share the same focus on calm, uncluttered design. It works particularly well on iPad, where the bigger screen gives your scrapbooks space to really shine.
