Ever evolving puzzle game.
From its first stage to its last, this soothing puzzle game is evolving in new and surprising ways.
OXXO dispenses with instructions, inviting you to do what comes naturally. You’ll soon work out that it’s all about connecting similar tiles, with simple swipes and taps moving and rotating them.
In an early stage, for example, you’ll be asked to link two circles and two crosses, while making sure the different symbols aren’t touching one another.
The tiles will turn red if you’ve got it wrong, and green when you’ve made the right connection. When they’re all green, you’ll hear a delightful little arpeggio and the stage will lift off, to be replaced by another absorbing conundrum.
OXXO never stays still, adding new ideas every few levels. You’ll soon discover that rectangular tiles rotate around square ones, and after a while, you’ll have moved onto three-dimensional challenges in which two linked tiles power hinges to help you slide other tiles from one plane to another. And by then you’re still only halfway through!
Each new concept is introduced in a straightforward way, letting you understand it quickly before the more complex challenges arrive.
All of this makes for an unusually relaxing game, and since the only way to fail a stage is to give up, it never gets frustrating. From its slick stage transitions to its mellow, calming ambient soundtrack, OXXO has both style and smarts in abundance.
