Bring You Home
To solve the puzzles in Bring You Home, you need to make mistakes. Lots of them. So let’s minimise the number of times you mess up.
In this game, you don’t directly control your character. Instead, you spin reels to line up various objects and creatures. Each combination produces different animations. Pay close attention to these - they’re critical to finding the configurations that allow your character to move safely across the screen.
Let’s look at this magic wand puzzle, which stumped us for a while. As you experiment with the reels, you’ll discover that reflecting a wand’s projectile off a mirror can shrink your character. You can also grow a skeleton to a colossal size. Every wrong path has an animation, and the little details are important.
For instance, although shrinking and scurrying under the mirror might seem at first like the correct path, a tiny mouse pops up to block the way. Look carefully and you’ll see every option in the right-hand reel has a mouse hole, ruling out the shrink-wand-with-mirror option. Blast the other wands against the mirror and you’ll still fail, which rules out the mirror too.
That leaves three other objects in the middle, all of which cause you to fail when you pass. So a wand needs to hit one of the objects on the right to nullify the middle threat. Or more specifically: bring the doglike statue to life to chase away the fire-breathing bird.
That’s one of the tougher puzzles early on and nicely illustrates the type of thinking you’ll need to succeed. And if you don’t, at least every mistake is beautifully animated.
