Description

Did you know there's also an Air Display app in the iOS App Store that turns your iPad or iPhone into a Mac monitor?

Note: The host software requires an Intel-based Mac.

Air Display lets you use a spare Mac’s screen as an extra display for your main Mac.

It's easy to use! Just launch this app on your spare Mac, then connect to it from the free host app on your main Mac, to instantly expand its screen real estate. You can connect wirelessly or with a cable.

IMPORTANT: This is NOT the free Air Display host software that you need on your main computer. You can download that at avatron.com/gethost. This is the client app that turns one Mac into a second monitor for another Mac.

–– FEATURES ––

• Drag windows, apps, or control palettes from your main screen to give yourself more room to work
• Use up to 4 devices simultaneously to extend or mirror your computer
• Run either full-screen or in a window
• Either extend your screen to get more room to work or mirror to share your screen with an audience
• Connect via Wi-Fi or with a wired connection (Ethernet, Thunderbolt, or USB-C)

–– INSTALLATION ––

Just install the free Air Display host app (from avatron.com/gethost) on your main Mac, and download this Air Display client app on your second Mac.

• Purchase this app on the Mac you want to use as your second display
• On your main computer, go to avatron.com/gethost and install the free host app
• You can install this app onto multiple Macs, as long as they use the same Apple ID

If you want to use your iPad or other device as your second screen, you do not need to purchase this app. Air Display for iOS is available in the iTunes App Store (and you’ll still need the same free host software on your main computer).

–– COMPATIBILITY ––

• Both computers must be on the same Wi-Fi network, or connected via Ethernet, Thunderbolt, or USB-C
• Mac client app: macOS 10.8 and above
• Mac host: macOS 10.10 and above (not compatible with macOS 10.13.4–10.13.6)
• The Air Display host software is not compatible with Windows

What’s New

Version 3.4.2

• Added more resolutions for different Mac displays.
• Fixed sleep prevention while connected; it wasn't working on Mojave and Catalina.
• Fixed some other bugs.
• The latest Host software fixes a bug that could make the mouse invisible while mirroring displays.
• To enjoy the new features and bug fixes, please “Check for Updates“ in the Air Display Host software on your Mac.

Way too laggy for work

My host is a Mac Mini and second display is Macbook Pro. This app makes my host laggy like crazy.... Not to mention how laggy it is on the second display. I want a refund. Edit: it is somewhat usable now after turn on "Reduce Transparency". Host lag has reduced.

Great for using old iMacs as second screen

I have an old iMac 20" (2008) and have been looking for a way to turn it into a second monitor for quite some time. Only the 27" old iMacs were able to be used as second monitor, so any other model was destined to waste those beutiful screens in recycling. Tried everything and nothing worked... until today when I got Air Display. After an easy setup I now have the iMac hooked to a MacBook Air 13" (2015) using an Ethernet cable. It recognized the iMac client immediately and works great (some minimum lagging but expected).
I would not recommend it for video purposes (watching or editing), but other regular tasks (Word, web browsing, even photoshop) it's very good. Probably the best option to bring back those old iMac screens to work.

It works, but very slow and laggy. Not worth the money.

I'm using air display to connect a new MBP to a new 21" retina imac as an external display.

It does not use the whole imac display, but instad crates a window with fixed aspect ratio. I am using the external for text only, with no video, etc. It works but is very slow. The mouse hops around with 200ms to 500 ms latency. The image is also not crisp. It looks like it is being interpolated or somethig. Definithely not displaying pixel-for-pixel.

Overall, yes it functions, and it allows me to do my work, but I am dissapointed, and would not buy the software again.

Developer Response ,

Hi. That performance you are seeing sounds quite bad! It should be much more fluid than that. Please contact me at support @ avatron.com. It sounds like you are mirroring your Mac display to another Mac display, and the two do not have the same aspect ratio. That would explain the fixed aspect, the slow performance, and the interpolated quality. It also sounds like you are in windowed mode rather than full-screen.
