App is alright ... but!

Right off the bat, they send you a nice welcome message asking you to pay 0.044 ETH to create your account!!

It’s a one-time fee (according to CEO with 3000 something paid followers on twitter!) and they promise they never ever charge gas fee from potential customers!

So, yes - all those paid shiny lovely reviews out there are during their preview / beta cycle less than a year ago which these guys apparently used to pay the gas fees / account creation cost and etc.

Things have changed - and it just gives you impression that they are here for a very short period of time milking inexperienced users - reminds of those youtubers asking people to send some ETH and they send back you double amount! LOL

App deleted - sent request to delete my personal data as well!

Hi, Ethereum network fees have risen drastically over the last year. We used to pay for the network fees for wallet creation but that became unsustainable. We use the welcome email, and multiple screens in the app, to be transparent that you do need to pay this fee, and that we don't profit from it. This fee is worth it if you require Argent's robust security. We appreciate though that it won't always be worth it for some other users. We're working on Layer 2 to bring cheap and quick transactions to Ethereum and make it accessible to everyone.

Great but fees make it unusable

This is an excellent defi phone app but currently the fees are too high for me to use the app.

For an example, to just do a network usage of staking a coin, will cost $80 it says, which is crazy, even considering the current Eth fees.

I can’t even do a single transaction currently, not sure if it always is like this. But say I have a 1000 dollars of one coin, to invest 10 of that coin returns a message saying I do not have enough to cover the fees, currently this is broken.

edit: after further use I do not recommend this app due to unreasonable fees. To even send my crypto to the app and then send it out costs $50 or so in fees, which just isn’t right, and avoidable through side chains with the right engineering. As it is now with the fees, the user loses massively and its impossible to make any gains at 5% apy for example, when it costs 50 bucks to get in or out of the investment. Thats not how cryptocurrency investing can work.

Indeed Ethereum gas fees are extremely high right now across the entire ecosystem. We never profit from these fees.
Regarding how to pay fees, you need Eth, Dai, USDC, USDT, ZRX or BAT in order to pay for those fees. So if you don’t have any of those tokens you won’t be able to cover the fees.
We are also working on layer 2 scalability solutions which in time will solve this.
