Description

Backdrop is a simple utility to fill your screen with a giant blank window. Fill the window with a solid color or a custom image, your choice. ALSO, includes a Fullscreen Color Cycle mode to see various colors filling your displays.

Backdrop received a 4 Mouse Rating by Macworld

Backdrop is useful for:
* Screenshots - take screenshots of one or many windows without having to clean up your desktop
* One thing at a time - Use Backdrop in between applications to let you focus on a few windows at a time. Want just one window of an app? Switch to Backdrop, then use Expose to pick out the window.
* Web design - create a full size image with outlines of more common screen sizes to help to check how your pages will look on different monitors
* Fullscreen Color Cycle - run the Cycle to see red, green, blue, white, and black from corner-to-corner on your displays.

Features:
* Supports multiple displays
* Set a color or a custom image
* Fullscreen Color Cycle mode
* Remains in the background during Exposé
* Works well with Spaces

What’s New

Version 3.1

• Settings for Choosing only "this" Space and making the backdrop somewhat see-thru are back.
• Additional picture options to fit or fill the screen without distorting/stretching the image

Great backdrop maker. Great Pixel Tester. Needs a couple options.

Pros:
Works. You open it up, it makes a background.
Seemlessly enables you to choose which windows are infront of it.
Easy to pick your own wallpaper.
You run pixel test. It makes a pixel test.
Great for lazy people like me.
**Note that the pixel testing option runs the colors in full-screen. The Apple-bar becomes hidden.**
Thank you sir for making this little program, and making it free.

Cons (these are subjective to how you use it, so no stars taken away):
When in normal backdrop mode, needs an option to hide the top bar.
Not enough options.

Options I would like to see:
- option to pause the screens in pixel test mode.
IE let's look at red more. Press space.
Basically if you make the arrows and spacebar work like preview, you are good to go.
*this is somewhat off-set by being able to manipulate the timer. None-the-less still would be nice.
- If you want to get fancy -
Make the program auto-configure the screen resolution size of the photo.
IE make various resolutions for the pixel test papers. Have it auto-select based on current resolution preferences.

Wonderful

This is a fantastic little lightweight app I often use for temporarily setting the Desktop background color. I use a dark black Desktop color to cover everything but my own selected windows. It really does work well with dual displays, Spaces, Mountain Lion, and Lion as claimed. Command-Tab and other window management controls make windows visible and invisible just as you would expect. Works with Mission Control and App Exposé. Backdrop is designed exactly as I prefer it. A big big thanks to the developers!
