Description

Bird Calls Xeno is a free app which connects to Xeno-Canto for you to search, listen and download bird calls for offline playback. The app has been designed by birders for birders!

Why use Bird Calls Xeno for your bird sounds and bird calls needs.

1: Search bird call by English & scientific name. You can search not only by english names but also by scientific names. The app will also start showing you results when you start typing the genus like Phylloscopus. This helps you to select from that specific genus.

2: Play bird calls sorted by rating.All bird calls are sorted by ratings so that you have Rating “A” calls at the top to play. This helps you to quickly get the best quality calls to hear without going through the entire search list.

3: Filter search. One of the requests we had was to search for a particular species for a country. We have now added filter by Country, rating and type when a search is executed for a bird call. This helps to filter searches to a country when you are visiting a specific country and want to only hear calls recorded in that country.

4: Offline calls. Yeah, what use is a bird call app if you are not able to use it on field or when you don’t have an Internet connection. You can download individual calls and they can be found under the offline section under the menu. In a future update we will have a direct icon for the Offline calls in the top menu(we were lazy to add it in this version).

This bird call app is free and we plan to keep it free until the end of time or until we go bankrupt(hopefully not!). In case you want additional feature, reach out to me through the contact us form in the side menu of the app and I would be happy to talk more on improving the app.

Good app with a lot of potential

The creation of this app was a very good idea however, I think it needs certain Improvements for it to reach its full potential.

The quick species search and the ability to download the bird calls/songs for offline use is fantastic.

There is the need to be able to organize the recordings though...

It would be great if we could create a folder on a particular geographical area of interest, say for example “Peru”.

Then within the folder “Peru” we could put the downloaded bird calls/songs.

Even more useful would be a folder for every bird species. Example: a folder called “Spectacled red start”. Within this folder would contain the different songs downloaded from the app as well as the calls.

Lastly, it would be great if we could search for specific bird songs/calls that we downloaded instead of having to scroll. It would also be useful if we could filter the downloaded bird songs/calls into taxonomic order or alphabetical order.

To sum up, this app has great potential and needs more organisation.

I think that if we could first create folders based on geographical regions. Ex “Peru” then within this folder, have folders for every bird species, Ex: “Spectacled red start” that contained every song and call downloaded.

Lastly being able to search for the downloaded recordings and filter them in taxonomic order would also be very useful.

I hope this feed back is helpful and that we will see some improvements in the near future.
