Description

Focus, Relax, Meditate and Sleep, with Music Made for Your Brain.

Brain.fm is a science-backed music app that enhances focus, improves sleep, and more. How does it work? Simply put, we use sound to change your brainwave patterns. This means you can drop into deep focus or fall asleep faster, every time.

Funded by the National Science Foundation (USA)
We take a science-first approach to music. The result? Brain.fm affects your brain differently than any other music. Our patented tech works via brainwave entrainment, and has been tested extensively with funding from the US government. Hear it to believe it!

ADHD MODE FOR ADHD BRAINS
Do you have challenges with attention? Some brains need extra stimulation to work best. That’s why people with ADHD tend to fidget when they’re trying to pay attention. Brain.fm provides this kind of stimulation through music. There’s even a ‘neural effect’ setting to boost the stimulation level specifically for ADHD. Think of brain.fm as a fidget spinner for your brain!

FREE WEB APP FOR EVERYDAY WORK
Mobile app users automatically have access to our web app. If you work on a computer, you’ll love the convenience of brain.fm on web!

BETTER THAN BINAURAL BEATS
Binaural beats and isochronic tones also use brainwave entrainment, but brain.fm does it better. We use patented A.I. on top of human-composed music to help you find your flow faster than any other audio technology.

generally pretty good

this app is honestly mostly as described! if you don’t wanna spend time looking for playlists that will help you focus this is perfect for you!

i only gave it 3 stars however for a couple of reasons:

1. they don’t allow you to set custom times, for example if i know i have exactly 45 minutes before i need to start getting ready for something, then i have to either settle for 30 or an hour there is no option to customize.

2. the price is steep for what it is, and the reality is (at least for myself, as someone with ADHD) it doesn’t do a whole lot more than a good lofi playlist. the main pull is the “neural effect” which admittedly is very nice! (it’s essentially modulating of sounds within the song at different speeds from ear to ear) but that just doesn’t feel enough to give me the value i need at the price point they’re asking for.

3. i was only able to find one study about the benefits of the modulation (neural effect) and it only specified that it benefitted people with ADHD, which generally i assume a lot of people using this app will not have ADHD. which to me kind of defeats the purpose of an all encompassing focus/relaxation app if the focus part is designated to a very specific aspect of neurodiversity. this (in my opinion) also harms the “backed by science” claim they make, since a majority of the studies they link to are sponsored/paid for by them. which again, possibly causes conflict of interest.

i think this app has some benefits and could be useful for people who don’t care to search for a good lofi playlist on spotify, but for most people this app is over glorified and not worth the money. for the same amount you could get access to spotify’s countless hours of user generated playlists, & even create your own playlists. the only thing you’ll miss out on is the modulation, which again, only seems to benefit a small group of listeners.

Helps focus. Good app. Notifications? Why?

The service works as advertised for me, helps me focus and sleep/nap. But every time I start the app for the day, it asks me to turn on notifications. Why? What is there to be notified of from an app that basically makes sounds? Does Brain.fm really not understand that notifications are the last thing that focus minded people want? It’s fine to ask once, but the constant reminders are off-putting, they should attempt to understand their target user better.
