Description

The robots you design will change the world! Will you show them the true meaning of love, or conquer Alaska with your robot army?

"Choice of Robots" is an epic 300,000-word interactive sci-fi novel by Kevin Gold, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Play out thirty years of your life as a brilliant robot maker, from graduate school near the present day to a future in which your robots have changed everything. Depending on your choices, your robots may be independent or obedient, clumsy or graceful, empathic or cold…and you yourself may live to an old age happily married or alone with only robots to comfort you.

Play as male or female, gay or straight, with nine characters to romance, four alternate climax chapters, and over seventy achievements to unlock.

• Build a unique robot character—you choose everything from its shape to what it calls you
• Instigate or prevent a robotic uprising
• Teach your robots to love humanity, or disdain it
• Build an artificial intelligence suitable to take control of the world's governments
• Start a war against the United States, and win
• Marry a human or an advanced robot, and start a family

A few glitches and issues

I haven't played enough of the game to say whether it's worth the money or not, but from what I've done so far I've noticed a problem. I'm not sure if it's actually supposed to be this way as a joke, or if it's a major glitch, but when I try to type out a name for myself or my robot, it doesn't work. For example, I decided to type my own name instead of picking one of the first names provided. However, after I typed in my name, it said "Unnamed. Is this correct?" I kept going back and typing the name I wanted over again but it doesn't work and only ends up leaving you as "Unamed" if you don't choose one from the list. Same thing with the robot; if you try and type it a name you came up with yourself, it basically just says "your robot- is this correct?" I'm not sure if this is supposed to be funny or if it's actually just an error, but it kind of bugs me. One of the best parts of choice games is immersing yourself into the story, which is hard to do when you can't even give yourself the name you want.
Other than that it seems interesting, a bit more philosophical in certain ways than most other choice games, though I'm not sure whether that's good or not. I'd prefer a little bit more freedom to interact with more than one character instead of just being allowed to befriend one while the others end up getting neglected.

Fantastically complex

I was hesitant at first because I'm not a sci-fi fan at all, but the story is interesting enough to keep even non-sci-fi fans engaged.

I've played through this game 4 times now, and each play through was completely different from the others. Looking it up online, I've found there are still tons of paths I haven't explored. I highly recommend this game.

Note: noticed a few minor continuity errors, but nothing game-breaking. For example, since you can really only spend time with 1, maybe 2, people in the beginning, sometimes things happen in the other people's lives that are referred to later on. The narrative acts like I should already know these things when I had no clue.
