CookBook - Recipe Manager 17+

I love this app!

This is, by far, the best way to store recipes! Not only is it dead easy to import recipes from the internet (I love the last update that provided this feature!) and it’s just as easy to add your own! I love the categorization ability and the planner feature. Well, actually I love all the features this app provides!!!

Good app overall

I’ve been using this app for over a month now and I still think it is a great one overall. There is room for improvement though, which is the reason I am giving it 4 stars out of 5:

- search does not really deliver on expectations, when I read in the description that you could literally just type what you have in the fridge, I got very excited, but actually the app does not live up to this claim; you can only search by a single keyword at a time, there is no option to get recipes that contain more than one keyword

- you can create custom tags, but you cannot delete a tag: when things are organized this way, you would expect that unused tags are automatically deleted, but that does not happen and with time my tag list gets polluted with a lot of tags with spelling mistakes or tags that I’ve changed my mind about

planning meals only covers a specific scenario in which someone goes to the store only once a week; I don’t plan my meals a week ahead and I would appreciate more flexibility and for god sake, the option to delete an entire recipe ingredients from the shopping list
There is no option to export all recipes in the app, or just a selected set of them, PDF option to export does not include the images and you have to export recipe by recipe
No option to add more than 1 image per step or simply more images to the recipe

Again, not a bad app overall, and still I would expect the above points to be addressed before I decide to use it as my main recipe reference.

If you would like to include & exclude ingredients from your fridge you will need to use the filter feature not just the search bar. When you're on your 'all recipes' page, tap on the filter icon in the top right hand corner to the left of the search magnifying glass. From here you can type in as many ingredients that you would like to include and exclude.

You can edit and rename tags as much as you like - CookBook is your own personal recipe book! Simply go into any recipe, tap edit, tap 'add tags', if you would like to edit or delete a tag tap on the 'edit' icon to the right hand side of the tag name, from hear you can then either rename it or just delete it.

Thanks for your feedback on the meal planner, we are working on some enhancements for a future update so that you will have a little more flexibility with what you can do.

CookBook offers a bulk export feature where you can export all of your recipes into a Zip of HTML or YAML formatted recipes. You can access this under the side menu of the CookBook app on in settings.


To add more than one image per step please go into the recipe you would like to update, hit edit, then tap method in the bottom bar. At the top you will see you have 'text editor' highlighted, please tap on 'detailed editor'. As you you can see you can add an additional photo for every single step you have in your recipe, simply tap 'add photo' and chose whether you want the image from your library or to take a new one with your camera.

Fabulous resource

I love this app. I’ve tried others but this one is easy to use in every way. It’s my constant companion in the kitchen!
