No Try Before you Buy

I was using Night Eyes which is free for 3 months and does an excellent job rendering everything darker, light text and dark backgrounds as well as all interface items. Purchased this one instead as part of a bundle. Displeased to discover it basically just darkens surrounding elements, and does nothing to the majority of the webites. So far less functional on: Google, Quickbooks, various forums etc. While I am pleased that it cost 1/5th of night eyes, it seems to be a case of you get what you pay for. If it were able to render entire sites correctly like night eyes it would be well worth the expense, and a 5 star app for sure. It still helps, and I won't spend the money for both, a pity but still better than the awful brightness I normally had.

The dark mode functionality works pretty good. It doesnt detect sites that are already in dark mode very good. But biggest issue is the list of whitelisted sites that you disable the extension for keeps getting reset to empty.

Developer Response ,

Dear user, Thank you for your review, I’m taking notes of all of them. The extension works very well for most of the websites out there in the wild. But if you have some websites that are not perfect, Dark Mode can offer some options: you can either add the site to the ignore list, or you can choose what sites Dark Mode to run on (only the sites that are rendered perfectly). If you have any questions, please write me to hello@alexdenk.eu and for sure I can assist you in any matter. Regards.

Privacy invasion?

Installed this as an experiment to see what it would do to extend Dark Mode to web-pages. I did not expect to find a permissions requirement that reads: "Can read sensitive information from webpages, including passwords, phone numbers and credit cards on all webpages". Nope. Uninstalled. A simple colour option should not have a need to see information like this. How do I get a refund on this?
UPDATE: I received the following response from the developer: "Dear user, Actually, all your Safari extensions (like Evernote, AdBlocker and so on) will have the same description there, this is the standard. You can download other extensions from the App Store and you will see that the same label will appear. Back to my app: the extension is not collecting any information, is not accessing any information from your browser, it’s not monitoring anything or sending data over the Internet in any way. It's very safe. The only reason the label is there is because the extension must access your loaded webpage in order to change it. Also, it's reviewed and tested by Apple in order to enter the App Store and they do not allow apps or extensions that collects information about you. So keep using the extension with confidence." I do have extensions that DO NOT show the warning on sensitive information, but I do greatly appreciate that the developer took the time to write this response to me. I'll give this another go and potentially revise my scoring based on that.

Dear user,
Actually, all your Safari extensions (like Evernote, AdBlocker and so on) will have the same description there, this is the standard.

So keep using the extension with confidence.
