Really weird app. Doesn't feel like a good Mac citizen

For some reason this app doesn't feel like a very good Mac citizen. The one window in the app doesn't even have a shadow beneath it like all other Mac apps do. So it sort of blends in with the window behind it.

It also crashes a lot and the navigation between time segments for saved clips is really awkward.

I don't think the developer used proper AppKit tools to create this app. It's also very very laggy when viewing the videos. Could use a good scrubber and 2x, 3x, 4x, etc. speed button.

There's a button with 3 boxes in it that looks like a way to change the view layout to have 1 camera on top and 2 cameras beneath. But instead, clicking it asks you to save a file. The button doesn't make sense.

It's handy to have an app for viewing Tesla Dashcam videos, but this app needs a lot of work.

UPDATE: Thanks for your response. I think it's more imporant to be a proper Mac app with proper window shadows rather than making it look like a Tesla UI. You're running on a Mac afterall and I would expect a more Mac looking app, not a Tesla UI app. I have a recently purchased Model 3.

Developer Response ,

Hi.

I’m using AppKit + Swift 5. I got rid of the standard border and the shadow since I wanted the look to match the Tesla UI.

The file scanning is getting a rework. There were too many different user requests since they each have a unique workflow that has different folder structures which was crashing the app.

If you have a HW3 car, the videos use h265 encoding which will make viewing videos a bit slow. I’m reworking the scrub method to smooth things out.

The button with three play icons is the export file function, not the change view button. I’ll change the icon to make this clearer. I wanted to avoid text as much as possible so that non-English speaking users can use this app too.

Changing playing speeds is something that sounds interesting on paper but I don’t think will be used a lot. If you have hours of footage, that would still take you more than 10 minutes to get through. I think users should scrub the global timeline which will get through hours of footage in a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the feedback.

5 star when rear camera and occasional crash stops

Should be 3 stars, but want to encourage the development of this app. Rear camera coming, that's awesome. Should also be able to choose between Sentry, Recent and Saved Clips.

Keep up the good work, more tesla's selling than ever and no Mac solution to view the footage. Make this great quickly!

Awesome app

Very useful app.

Potential feature request: an option to export videos with a timestamp overlay?
