Ratings and Reviews
It's a fun app as a student, but I'm TIRED of it always crashing.
Outdated, buggy app looks like a throwback to the 1990s
I downloaded this app to accompany my “Hal Leonard Essential Elements for Band” book, and was immediately disappointed.
Visually, the information presented looks decades out of date, as if it’s from the dawn of the Internet era. Beige, white and black are everywhere, as are simplistic, amateurish graphics (think pic art add-ons from an old version of word processing software).
The video tutorials have a similar retro appearance, and not in a good way. They resemble old corporate training videos, and are devoid of any liveliness or engagement.
The on-screen controls are slow, imprecise and function only sporadically (even on a fast connection), preventing the user from starting, stopping or repeating music reliably. And despite the appearance of a feature that’s supposed to let you record yourself playing, it doesn’t seem to be functioning, at least in an intuitive way.
A point of annoyance and inconvenience is being prompted to login manually every time you launch the app.
It’s significant to note that, as of the time I’m posting this, the developer (Hal Leonard Corporation) hadn’t updated the app in at least one year.
Other users posting here (including music teachers) have reported frequent app crashes and have said they’re discontinuing use of the app—but that doesn’t seem to matter to the company, which doesn’t seem interested in supporting Essential Elements or making it a modern, quality product that enhances study.
Sad. Just sad.
This app is so good! It helps me so much in my learning.
