Description

The new way to practice jazz!
Genius Jamtracks, the play-along app for jazz musicians that thinks and plays like an actual trio.
With an impressively realistic sound and feel, it helps you build your repertoire, your jazz vocabulary and master polyrhythms.

Genius Jamtracks introduces "New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers" - a monumental publication and effort led by Terri Lyne Carrington, founder and artistic director of Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.

“Genius Jamtracks is easily the best play along app out there! Particularly the piano voicings are more logical and realistic than other play-along apps. The bass and drums are not just a simple repetitive pattern, but actually use some jazz language. And it’s nice that you can make the band busy in unpredictable ways. As much like playing with a real group as you can get from an algorithm. Highly recommended!“
~ Paul Bollenback

“It’s like a jazz musician wrote it. The drums and piano are just like how a jazz drummer and pianist would play. Couldn’t be an easy task to create that!”
~ Steve Beskrone

- Why it sounds great:
It’s all in the dynamics, note durations, space and feel.
The Genius Jamtracks trio pays close attention to each of these elements to make the practice experience as close to the real thing as possible.
- A real swing feel!
Forget the robotic triplets of other play-alongs.
When changing the tempo, the app doesn’t simply play faster or slower, the swing feel changes as well. The app learned how to swing by internalising jazz vocabulary and playing based on real transcriptions from the masters.
- Actual voice leading!
No matter what your settings are, just press play and you’ll always have the same attention to voice leading from the pianist and the same effort in creating beautiful lines from the bassist to accompany you.

- Create your own songs with Genius Jamtracks using an easy and intuitive interface.
- Edit the charts for your favourite jazz standards however you like.
- Option to create your own playlists of songs.
- Custom fonts make for beautiful, easy to read chord charts.

- Rhythm Department:
Start with simple comping and work your way up to mastering superhuman polyrhythms!
Focus on a specific grouping, ratio, polyrhythm or rhythmic displacement. Ask the trio – or an individual instrument – to include only what you’ve requested when they introduce polyrhythmic phrasing.
As you won’t know when or how it will be used though, this feature also helps sharpen your reflexes as well as mastering that rhythm!

- Harmonic Level Selector:
Start with triads and work your way up to advanced substitutions and reharmonisation of the song.

- Voicing Selector:
Select your preferred voicing type directly from the new selector.

- Link Button:
When a song is opened, the app automatically selects the best voicings based on the song style. If the link is off, your chosen voicing type will be saved as the default.

- Time Placement
Fancy a ballad, or a straight-ahead swing? Give the trio a more powerful or loose feel.

Ready to take your skills to the next level?

Great play along app

Excellent practice app, great sounding play along tracks nicer and more real sounding than most other similar apps out there.

My New Favourite App

I simple love this app. Sounds are sooo good. I’m a jazz rookie, but this really cooks.

Great app, could use some tweaks.

Downloaded and tried the app in a few practise sessions. Seems like a decent alternative to iRealPro. Surprised that there is no way to loop a selection of bars to focus on a certain section of a song. That should be a feature added in the future.

Also despite explanations I’ve found regarding Ratios, Groupings and Other I’m still not understanding how to use these features the way I would want to nor is it explained if these modes are accumulative or independent. Messing around with these features seems to add an extensive amount of unnatural gaps in the background music playing. Like someone hit the pause button on the band and then started them up again randomly. Other times it’s like the backing track is purposely trying to throw you off as oppose to merely adding variety or added fills. Perhaps it’s just a matter of not having the bass and drums adopt these added complexities in Practise mode. At any rate I rather Jam mode which is simpler to understand and adding complexity is as easy as moving a slider.

A useful app for musicians. It could be more comprehensive and have loop section feature as I said.
