Description

History Check© is a multi-purpose, map-based travel app. Whether you are looking for a great restaurant, want to learn some local history, or find recreational activities in a specific area, History Check© is for you.

You will be able to see what is around you using the “Near Me” feature or any of the 650+ Community Menus and choose between 5 categories to explore and experience.

If you are looking for something specific use the “Search” feature (found under the Menu tab). Keywords include everything from fuel, specific foods, types of businesses, and names from Alberta’s past. The list keeps growing.

Find details about sites by opening their map or list display. There are two types of ‘Point of Interest’ listings; historical information and local businesses. Historical information includes images (where available) and additional links. Other listings can include image(s), product/service descriptions, available contact information, links to websites and social media pages. All sites may include other regional links to give you more to explore and experience in that area.

With thousands of site listings, our content continues to grow as we partner with organizations, governing bodies, and interested individuals to provide self-guided tours across Alberta.

Interaction is encouraged. Share your finds on social media, make a comment, take a selfie! Suggest other sites to be added to the app, by using the Blue Arrow on the left and “Submit a Point of Interest”.

A new gaming feature will be added (2021). Each unique event, tour, or challenge will be organized by partnering organizations and potentially have prizes awarded. This flexibility in design provides the opportunity to purposefully explore different areas of Alberta. Selfies, images, or trivia may all be a part of these scavenger hunt type tours.

Use the History Check© app to experience Alberta and share so others can discover our diverse province!

Creativity From a Kitchen Table

I am a person who loves history. I also love rural Alberta. I think it’s important people know the story of how this app was created. As a housewife, with zero experience I created this app from my kitchen table with other volunteers. The concept has grown to be a collaboration of organizations and individuals across the province to supply the travelling public with attractions, services, businesses and heritage sites and stories.

The app has grown to be Alberta wide, all accomplished with a lack of funding, a lot of hard work, and a growing network of alliances. We will continue to grow and improve it.

The sign up questions will be minimal in the next version. We simply didn’t know any better. The user name and email create your personal list of we where you’ve been or whom you’ve interacted with. The rest of the questions can be fudged.

Great potential - terrible app

I was super excited for this app, I think the idea is great. However the user interface is bright, tacky, and distracting, the app itself is extremely slow, it sometimes shows the museum near my house and sometimes does not. Not user friendly at all. I recommend having some young people work on the app to help work out the bugs and make it more user friendly. Also, no one wants to take selfies at a museum and post them on your app for everyone to see.

Disappointing

I agree so disappointed. Data collection is the main aim here. The sneak peek I got of the app was UGLY, did not seem user friendly.
