Description

The hypoglycaemia risk score tool was developed as a simple method to illustrate the risk of developing a severe hypoglycaemic event (ADA definition) for type 2 diabetes patients, depending on five factors. The Hypoglycaemia Risk Score tool is based on pooled data from the DEVOTE trial data-set, a cardiovascular outcomes trial in diabetes.
The risk grouping is population based and cannot be used to provide an exact hypoglycaemia risk estimate for an individual patient. As such, the tool is not for diagnosis or treatment purposes.

By adjusting five patient specific variables (age, HbA1c, diabetes duration, sex and insulin treatment regimen), the hypoglycaemia risk score tool displays the risk in percent of experiencing a severe hypoglycaemic event within a time frame of two years.

The hypoglycaemia risk score tool should not be used for diagnostic or treatment purposes. No causal relationship between severe hypoglycaemia and cardiovascular events can be established from the hypoglycaemia risk score tool and severe hypoglycaemia can not serve as a risk marker for adverse outcomes.
