Description

LifeguardConnect™ is a life-saving app that links users to mental health and substance use resources. LifeguardConnect™ is all-encompassing and helpful for anyone seeking to improve their mental health or access emergency resources and services. Some of the key features include:

Use Alone Timer:
Stay protected during substance use. App users can begin the timer before consumption and reset it when they are safe. If they become unresponsive, paramedics will be automatically alerted.

Drug Alerts and Notifications:
Get up-to-date details about toxic drugs and important information in your area directly to your phone. Turn on the push notifications for instant updates, or check the app for the most recent alerts.

Services Near Me:
Find services in your area and get location details, hours, contact numbers and more. Filter and search by type of service to find what you need the most such as supervised consumption sites, health clinics, harm reduction supplies and more.

Resources:
Be connected with the most important mental health and substance use resources at the click of a button. LifeguardConnect™ is the centralized place to find access to helplines, chats, education resources, and emergency support.
LifeguardConnect™ was developed in collaboration with British Columbia Emergency Health Services and Provincial Health Services of British Columbia, enabled by the British Columba Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions. LifeguardConnect is intended for use within British Columbia and Ontario. Select features may not be available, accessible, or functional outside of British Columbia and Ontario. If you would like to request Connect for your region, please contact support@lifeguarddh.com.

Privacy & Security:
No personally identifiable information is collected through LifeguardConnect™. Aggregated data, such as the number of users in a particular city, is anonymous. Lifeguard Digital Health cannot see any personal information, and the anonymized data is not available or sold to any other person, entity, government department, or service.
LifeguardConnect™ is compliant with all industry privacy practices and regulations and meets the highest global standards.
When emergency services are contacted through LifeguardConnect™, associated call details are erased from the app once paramedics are dispatched. Personal data is neither collected nor retained by Lifeguard Digital Health.
In the event of a timer alert, only emergency services will gain access to user data, such as their current location. Data is anonymized and used for informing regional public health prevention response parties.

new update ruins a good important thing

new update is trash and completely negates the utility of the app by requiring a verified connected phone number to access the use alone timer. the people who need this the most may very likely be using the app via wifi only (as I am), and not have an active connected phone number.

also, if you’re unconscious on the floor overdosing, who’s answering the phone when someone from EMS or lifeguard calls you?

a physical address or GPS coordinates should be the ONLY data required to access the use alone timer. i’m incredibly disappointed with this & have lost respect for the developers who seemed to understand PWUD needs but have lost the plot.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback, we love to hear from our users!

We're really sorry to hear that you feel the update has made the app harder to use. The Use Alone Timer has always required a verified phone number to use in order to make sure people are as safe as possible.

It is a requirement from our EMS partners that we have a method for the EMS dispatcher to contact the person using the app so they can attempt to contact them in the event of an emergency. This is useful for EMS to cut down on the number of false alarms by calling the verified phone number and confirming that there is an emergency, as well as potentially getting more information on the emergency. If the person is unconscious or unable to answer the call for any reason, an ambulance will be dispatched to their location.
Your information (phone number and location details) only leave your phone in the event of an emergency, otherwise it is not stored anywhere but your phone, because we know how important your privacy is.

We would really like to help you overcome any issues you are facing, are you able to reach our to our help line at support@lifeguarddh.com and we can work with you to find a solution to make sure you can access the Use Alone Timer.
