Description

Linguan greatly simplifies localizing your Mac and iOS apps. It gives you an intelligent editor for all strings files contained in your Xcode project.

Open, edit and save XLIFF files directly (useful now that Xcode can export XLIFF files)

You get warned about duplicate tokens or missing translations. Then you can export and e-mail all missing tokens for a specific language to your translator, who can also use Linguan for filling in the translations or use his text editor of choice.

When you get the translators results back Linguan automatically merges the results into your project, even if the tokens originated from multiple different strings files.

Linguan is the most fun way to clean up your translations.

This app was created by people who are using it every day to localize their apps: Peer Assembly, BytePoets and Cocoanetics.

Good, but could be improved

This application greatly simplifies the process of translating applications. The only problem I found is that if I have a storyboard and doing translations using the storyboard as the base, Linguan does not associate the storyboard and the corresponding strings file together. So, in Linguan, I have a Main.storyboard file with a Base translation at 100% and I have a Main.strings file in each of my translation. However, if I change something in Main.storyboard, Linguan doesn’t detect the changes in the corresponding strings file.

This is a great app anyway and I recommend it anyway.

Brilliant! No ... NECESSARY!

Took less than 5 minutes from first launch to see that this would have saved many, many hours' work on the last large localized project. Magnificent work, should be considered an absolutely essential translation management tool. Buy it NOW if you do any localization whatsoever!

Changing file encoding renders app completely useless

I like where this app is going and it could be of great use to me except that it changes the encoding of my Localizable.strings file to UTF-8 upon saving! This renders it unreadable in Xcode 4 and unusable as a strings file (except for in the simulator). I've waited through several version upgrades and was hoping this obvious error would have been corrected by now. Apple's documentation states that Localizable.strings files should be UTF-16 encoded so it doesn't make sense that this app would convert them to UTF-8. The 5-star reviews lead me to believe that others are using it successfully though I don't see how is this possible?

An otherwise valiant effort thus far and I'm still rooting for this app. I also hope to see support for exporting strings from xib files and then creating new xibs or maintaining existing ones with the translated strings.
