Musicology is the world's first collaborative video conferencing platform specifically designed to help music teachers teach effectively online. Featuring all the tools teachers need, like high quality audio, an interactive polyphonic keyboard, a collaborative annotable whiteboard, an interactive grand staff, guitar tuner, virtual fretboard and guitar chord finder, Musicology makes teaching a more intuitive, fun and engaging experience than it ever was before. Founded and developed by musicians, the Musicology team has first hand knowledge of the challenges teachers have faced this year with non-dedicated conferencing apps. I can focus on just teaching again

This App has allowed me to focus less on the technical side of things and more on my students again. We are music teachers, not technicians and our students deserve the best experience they can get. So far my experience with Musicology has been a game changer. The audio allows me to clearly hear clapping, breathing and multiple instruments at once. There is no lag, and no freezing.
The collaborative aspect of it is great too because it allows the students to communicate so much more easily. Ive tried a lot of platforms since the pandemic started, I am so happy to have found this one.

Terrible terms and customer service

Extremely rude treatment by this company (Rebecca the owner) after I worked hard to give my honest feedback.
After I pointed out (in a very professional detailed email) that the terms and conditions require every teacher to give up all rights to all of their own intellectual property that they use in their lessons she agreed saying the terms had been drafted by lawyers but she agreed completely that those terms were wrong and unnecessary. She promised to take action right away. When I followed up she stalled saying it would take some months due to lawyers involvement. She never made the changes and never followed up.

I never used the app with clients. Not once. One day I noticed via an email I was being “automatically renewed” and they would be billing my credit card automatically. I had only signed on to test the app for the free trial period. And I was keen to help a Canadian app developer in the early days of its release. I hoped it could deliver as promised. Digging deeper into my account portal I found they had also charged me $100 US dollars. I had not noticed any emails from Musicology alerting me to any charges. I expect those emails if they were sent came directly from their payment processor and didn’t mention the app name or mention charges in the subject line. Ie they would have looked like scam emails.

Ok perhaps an honest mistake but when I pointed out I had only signed up to test the app and provide feedback and had held off on any actual useage due to the terms of the agreement (which she had promised to fix) she became extremely rude, hostile and accusatory.
I reminded her I had never used the app and that she’d never got back to me as promised and had never dealt with the clause about intellectual property as she had promised to!!
Competing platforms like Rock out Loud have excellent quality audio, and unlimited free trial period with some limitations. It’s completely unnecessary for teachers to give up all rights to their own intellectual property to use a conferencing platform. And it doesn’t cost $1000 to just remove the offending sentences from the terms of service.
Stay away!
She was all sweetness and sunshine on social media and phone calls until I asked for a refund. Then she was menacing, hostile, accusatory and rude.
Oh and once you agree to those terms you’ll never see them again. They disappear and can’t be found anywhere online or in the app itself.
Shameful, dishonest behaviour and brutal, predatory policies.

The future of teaching piano

I’ve been waiting since last March for an app like this!! The audio is incredible - no more cutting out, freezing images or garbled speech. It truly is like being in the same room, especially on a larger screen like an iPad. The interactive whiteboard has enabled me to start teaching theory again and the emojis are a hit with the younger crew. The developers are open to new ideas and continue to improve upon what is already a fantastic platform.
