NLVaxVerify for businesses, from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

NLVaxVerify is the official COVID-19 vaccine verifier application from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for businesses to verify NL vaccine records using a QR code.

The app allows businesses to validate the COVID-19 vaccination status from Newfoundland & Labrador issued vaccination records by scanning a QR code. Once scanned the app will show whether a resident has met the conditions by showing a green or red status.

Verification is done locally on the device without communicating with the internet. The app does not save any information on the device and it does not collect usage analytics.

The app will require access to your camera in order to scan QR codes. It will also require a weekly connection to the internet to update public health rules.

NLVaxVerify requires at least an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 11 or newer. Access to the camera is required to read QR codes of proof of vaccination.

What’s New

Version 1.1.0

- QR code enabled vaccination records from the other Canadian Provinces and Territories are now supported as they go-live in those jurisdictions. Vaccination records issued by the Canadian Armed Forces are also supported.

- NLVaxVerify now requires a daily check for updates to facilitate acceptance of vaccination records outside of Newfoundland and Labrador (the vaccination records can still be verified offline)

Poor Development and Security

The app is very poorly designed. Regardless of the political concerns, this app has horrible security standards for a government app. I would consider it an ethical violation to implement this and expect it to protect PII. Honestly anyone who’s done High School Computer Science could have designed a more functional and secure app. Also features minor compatibility options showing the sloppy nature of the design process.

Amateur development

Three welcoming screens, and I can see that the developer didn’t test it on the smaller screen of the iPhone SE. there is obviously an agree or OK button somewhere on the last welcome screen, but I cannot see it on the SE. nor scroll to it.
Stupid mistake. I cannot use it.

QR code’s won’t always scan

This app only works certain times with certain NL QR codes. Won’t acknowledge certain QR’s. Very frustrating that we have to do this as business owners when it doesn’t always work. Poor judgement on the NL government to put this into effect when the app doesn’t even scan the codes properly. Would give this app 0 stars if I was able.
