Description

OTP Auth adds support for two-factor authentication to your Mac. It can be used with Dropbox, Facebook, GitHub, Google Mail and many more. Make your accounts safe again!

Features:
- Access to the extended features of OTP Auth Pro
- Ads free
- Encrypted iCloud Sync
- Notification Center widget
- Safari extension for pasting passwords into websites
- Secure application using Touch ID (or password)
- Create encrypted backups of all accounts
- Import/Export encrypted accounts using AirDrop, iCloud, Dropbox, Mail, ...
- Works offline

All data stored by OTP Auth is stored using strong AES-256 encryption. This applies for all data. In particular, for both locally stored data as well as data stored in the iCloud Drive (when iCloud Sync is enabled). The password for those files never leaves your device such that noone but you can read your data.

OTP Auth does not collect information about you or send them anywhere. You won't be asked to allow access to your contacts or your location. And most important: OTP Auth does not connect to the internet and will not send your accounts to someone else! (Unless you enable iCloud sync where an AES-256 encrypted copy of your accounts is stored in your iCloud Drive. The password for that copy will never leave your phone.)

Nice, clean simple, but some bugs...

This is a very nice app, very clean and simple interface and features, but there are issues... one being that occassionally (rarely) upon startup, it appears to display invalid (possibly old/previous?) codes, that refresh after a second or so, but I may be wrong about that. Another issue I do know for sure, is that after the app times out and re-asks for the password, the app cannot be exited - no methods of quitting the app work including clicking the red-dot, choosing Quit from the menu, etc - it will only quit after the password is entered again - very frustrating, as it times out pretty quick, and there is no way to configure the time.

The app does sync nicely between desktop and phone app.

Pretty great, not perfect

Things I love:
- menu bar access
- Safari extension that autofills on the page
- nice UI w/ dark mode
- iCloud syncing

Things that need improving: iCloud syncing. If i add a new item by barcode scanning on my iPhone, that item is not visible in the Safari extension view until i open the OTP app proper. This is unfortunate, since I *never* open the app on my mac for any reason other than this one. Menu bar and Safari extension access give me all the functionality I require otherwise.

Also, when i re-order items on one device, I expect that order change to be reflected everywhere else, including Safari view and menu bar view.

Otherwise, this is one of the better OTP apps out there for iOS/MacOS, and I am still happy with my purchase.

Developer Response ,

Hi there!

Thank you very much for your feedback and this in depth review! It gives me a lot of things to think about including the most important pain points to work on to improve OTP Auth on macOS in the future :).

Unfortunately, the App Store Review answer function does not allow me to write enough text to answer each of your issues adequately. Some of them I would say are due to the beta version of macOS Catalina (for instance, the iCloud Sync issue and the non working return key in the login field). Both of these work fine at least for me, and other reviews seem to agree with that. Others (like the Safari extension and the menu-bar icon) I'm working on right now. I hope I can already include them in the next version of OTP Auth for macOS. However, be assured, that I'll work on each and every one of the issues :).

The only thing that is a bit unclear to me is the Password Auto-Fill box appearing over the password entry field. Can you send me a screenshot of this issue to otpauth@cooperrs.de? That would really help me debugging as there was no password auto fill box planned :D.

Looking forward to your screenshot and hopefully as a future user as well!

Simple to use, works great

This is the first and only OTP app I've used, so I can't make comparisons, but it does absolutely everything I need it to, and is very simple and convenient to use.
