Procreate Dreams 4+

Procreate Dreams is a good app for absolute beginners, but I expected more on release. It is missing many features even for a basic animation/drawing app like selection tools, reordering layers and a brush editor. The layout is nice but the app crashes very often.

Hey Kevin - Thank you for using Procreate Dreams and for sharing your feedback with us. The Selections tool and layer arrangement function are currently in development and you should be able to expect it within the next few updates of Procreate Dreams. In terms of Brush Studio, we are planning on keeping it exclusive to Procreate, as it is a feature particularly designed for Procreate as a dedicated illustration software. However, you can import any customised brushes from Procreate into Procreate Dreams and all the settings will be preserved.

As for the crashing behaviour you are experiencing, could you provide us with a bit more information so we can better help you? Specifically, does it happen after a certain action? Are you able to replicate it in a new movie by undertaking the same steps? Once we have more information from you, we will do whatever we can to assist you further. 🙏

It has so, so much potential. But it’s missing a few key features. My big issue? The selection tool - or, the lack thereof.

You can’t draw your own selection lines and resize things freely. I’d like to think I’m not the only one who finds this a huge, pressing issue. It’s one of the tools I use most in Procreate; and the version of it we have right now in this app where you can only move the entire drawing and not section parts off is VERY concerning. Please, please add the in-depth selection function from Procreate.

Or maybe, I’m just being thick and in-depth selection IS a feature, but I can’t tell because the app is frustratingly hard to get a handle on. I understand partly how to use it, but anything beyond basics I’m forced to learn on my own or a helping hand on YouTube. The official help page, unfortunately, has been really unhelpful.

And beyond that, the interface is slightly annoying, and trying to do absolutely anything to the Tracks results in me rapidly double tapping the screen to undo because I have to fix the issue before the app crashes on me - which its been doing every time without fail.

One more thing: Undo and Redo buttons. Please add them. Double and Triple tapping doesn’t work half the time and I just end up accidentally messing with the Track instead.

I don’t say any of this in malice. I want to love this app so badly, and I almost actually do! But it needs some major public feedback and workshopping before it rivals Procreate itself.

Hey King of melons - thank you for the heartfelt and supportive feedback. Rest assured, we feel no malice and we know you are sharing this in the hopes of improving the app with us. The good news is that we are aiming to introduce Selection and Transform modes in the near future. For now, we don't have direct plans for adding buttons for Undo and Redo, but as always we are open to input and this may change. With the Undo troubles, try tapping on the title of your Movie on the left, after opening it. Head to Preferences and try adjusting both the Stored Undo Steps and Rapid Undo Delay, to see if adjustments help with your workflow for now. Thank you again for the input! It lacks the select/transform tool in drawing mode, liquify, and the ability to extend frame exposure when there’s no gap between adjacent frames.
i really appreciate the flipbook, but the controls are a bit clunky.

In terms of extending frames, you can achieve it with Procreate Dreams' Timeline Edit feature in combination with the Content push/pull gesture.
