It actually works.

The Quell is actually really good. I bought it to help with my headaches, but sadly it didn't help me, but it did help my knee and foot pain after a hard day of work. This app is great to manage and keep track of the Quell unit.

Useful, and Could Use Improvements

2016-02-25: Since the update following my early January 2016 review, I thought that the random resetting the device settings issue outlined in my original review below, had been fixed. However, this morning, discovered not so much: woke up to find the app unable to connect to Quell, but after restarting the app failed to fix it, I rebooted my phone, which did then connect with the device fine. (I have no other Bluetooth issues ever, so doubt it is my phone; I connect to my car, house phone and speakers every day with never an issue to date.) When I went to check the app settings, sure enough, once again auto-restart and gentle overnight were off without any intervention from me.

Given recent history as detailed previously and today, it occurs to me that it might be a device or firmware issue, so I will try the upcoming firmware update and if that is not a fix, call customer service to see if this is an isolated or known issue, and how to address it.

***** Just to be clear: I still give the device itself five stars. As an effective, non-drug pain treatment, it definitely has enormous value. I trust the app will continue to be improved and refined to catch up to the quality of the device. *****

2016-01-11: The Quell device is truly a game-changer. After using it since June 2015 (7 months), I am unable to imagine going back to *not* using this device and its app. I have found substantial relief from chronic nerve and muscle pain, improved my sleep quality, and after a couple of months I was able to reduce the dosages of my prescription pain medications. So the device gets 5 stars from me: therapeutic medical technology at an accessible initial investment (though be prepared for the ongoing substantial electrode replacement cost, if you happen to use the device 24/7, and are buying with the Canadian exchange premium on the dollar presently).

The app itself is helpful to check on treatment timing/progress, keep track of electrode replacement based on an average two-week life (non-adjustable by the user though, which should be changed so those of us using our Quell devices 24/7 can keep on top of timely replacement based on 12 sessions per day instead of 6-8), and monitor the device's battery status and number of sessions left before recharging is required.

I cannot find an explanation of how the sleep time and quality are observed and recorded, so I do not find this a helpful feature. Currently, when I check the app in the morning, I notice that both length and quality assessments seem inaccurate. Even when I have been up/ awake multiple times overnight and know I had very limited deep sleep, the app reports a 90%+ rating, so this feature is a mystery to me.

By and large the app seems stable and able to perform reliably. However, in the last few weeks, I have found an oddity happening: wondering why I was in more pain again, or realizing I hadn't noticed a treatment happening in a long time I found auto-restart turned off, and instead of my standard "gentle overnight" setting, it was set to "bedtime only." I know I had not been in Settings in the app, so how/why did that change? Maybe I am missing something, or it is a buggy feature and some documentation would be good.

Fully recommend my Quell device to chronic pain sufferers. The app needs some attention to add improvements as noted already; it only does a very basic job of tracking/monitoring at this point.
