Description

Session is a new breed of private messenger, built on a unique network of user-operated servers spread all over the world. With no central servers, Session can’t leak or sell your data. And with Session’s private routing protocols, your messages are completely anonymous. No one ever knows who you’re talking to, what you’re saying, or even your IP address.

• Fully anonymous account creation: No phone number or email needed to create a Session ID

• Decentralised server network: No data breaches, no central point of failure

• No metadata logging: Session doesn't store, track, or log your messaging metadata

• IP address protection: Device IP addresses are never exposed to the person you're talking to or the servers holding your data

• Closed groups: Private, end-to-end encrypted group chats for up to 100 people

• Secure attachments: Share voice snippets, photos, and files with Session's secure encryption and privacy protections

• Free and open-source: Don’t take our word for it — check Session's code yourself

Session is free as in free speech, free as in free beer, and free of ads and trackers. Session is built and maintained by the OPTF, Australia’s first privacy tech not-for-profit organisation. Take back your online privacy today — download Session.

What’s New

Version 2.5.0

• Disappearing Messages now has two modes, Disappear after Send and Disappear After Read
• When Disappear after Send is selected, messages will disappear from sender, recipient and network simultaneously a set time after they have been sent, regardless of whether the recipient has received or read the message.
• When Disappear after Read is selected, messages will disappear for the sender and the sender’s swarm a set time after they have been sent, and for the recipient and the recipient’s swarm a set time after they have been read. Messages which haven’t been read after 14 days will disappear for the recipient and their swarm.
• Both options will be available in 1-1 chats, but only Disappear after Send will be available in Groups. Neither will be available in Communities.
• This release includes the new version of Disappearing Messages, however the feature won't be enabled until March 13th 10am AEDT, this will give users time to update their clients to be able to interpret the new type of messages

Needs security code

This app is great. But the security code should be different than your phone numbers.

Full featured next level communications

Session brings the best of today’s messenger features into a brilliantly executed privacy focused application. Users can easily connect via cutting edge privacy technology across a wide range of mobile and desktop environments. The interface supports many of today’s features and enhancements. It does this so beautifully and simplistically that the advanced privacy infrastructure which facilitates it through a decentralized network is transparent to users. The app in of itself merits attention but add to that next level privacy through revolutionary network protocols and app design virtually ensures Session will become the new standard in privacy communication. Nothing out there goes this far.
