Description

Trusted by 220,000+ customers from 130+ countries, the ShutterCount family is the gold standard in shutter count reading software.

*** The original, most feature-rich and only Mac shutter count reader that works with all new Canons ***

ShutterCount displays the number of shutter actuations (the shutter count) of your Canon EOS, Nikon or Pentax digital camera - see the complete list of certified models below. The shutter count is read directly from USB or Wi-Fi connected Canons, and from image files for Nikon and Pentax cameras. With ShutterCount you can easily check whether a newly purchased camera is really new, or how heavily used a pre-owned item is. And you can save a trip to a service center by doing the reading for yourself.

BASE FEATURES

• Wear indicator with numeric and graphical rated shutter life percentage display
• History logging to track camera usage; logs are stored in CSV format that can be imported into Numbers or Excel for further processing

PaNorm ,

Did not work with my 1D Mark IV, now it does. And EOS Ra.

I had no apps that auto-open when I connect my camera. I closed my USB apps (Adobe, photography, astronomy, and VirtualBox), restarted the computer, connected the camera with a trusted USB cable, turned the camera on, opened ShutterCount, and it said “No Camera Connected” in the Camera menu. Was another app connected to the camera? No, because the app can detect and warn about that, which it did not do.

A few months later I tried again and it worked! Am I careless? No. I followed all the steps in the Getting Started guide, and double-checked several things and tried multiple times. And I’m still using the same cable now. Will it work again in a month?

So I’ve upgraded my rating from 1 to 4 stars. (-1 for the bumpy start and possible inconsistency.) Note that I did not avail myself of Customer Support so I have no opinion on that.

BONUS information: I can confirm that version 4.3 also works with my EOS Ra, but not my 1D Mark II N.

Developer Response ,

Since we do extensive compatibility testing and validation, we are 100% confident that the app works as advertised. More than 100,000 people use it successfully all over the world. Speaking from years of support experience, problems are almost exclusively caused by trying to use the app the wrong way, despite clear in-app guidance, step-by-step instructions and videos (all accessible from the Getting Started Guide: https://www.direstudio.com/shuttercount/getting-started/). These instructions of course assume that you know how to use the affected features of your camera.
We're always ready to answers your questions and resolve your issues, you just have to ask by submitting a Problem Report from within the app (as described on our support page). But please describe what you actually tried and with which camera model, since we don't have mind reading abilities and it's impossible to do anything with "doesn't work" type complaints.

Not working

I have 2 Canon 70D Camera’s and neither are being recgonized by the software. Not sure how to fix this issue and isn’t in any help files!

Developer Response ,

The app is certified to work with the 70D, so we are 100% confident that it works - barring hardware or software malfunction, or operator error. As noted in the app description in the Mac App Store, in the Getting Started Guide (accessible by clicking Help > Getting Started from within the app or at http://www.direstudio.com/shuttercount/getting-started), in our FAQ (http://www.direstudio.com/shuttercount/faq) and even in the camera's user manual: WiFi on the EOS 6D and 70D MUST BE DISABLED as it blocks the USB port when enabled. Turning it off is not enough, it must be completely disabled. You also have to quit all other apps that may connect to the camera (rebooting your Mac and restarting the camera usually resolve these kind of issues). If you still experience problems, please use the app's built-in problem reporting feature (click Help > Report a Problem) that provides us with the information necessary to diagnose your issue.

Such a wonderful thing to get ,

Doesn't work for my Canon 7D
