Description

Practice Japanese writing with Skritter, whether you have a strong grasp of written Japanese and want to remember the characters better or are a beginner who doesn’t know where to start.

Skritter has existed for more than 10 years, and for a good reason: our learners are amazing! They help us with feedback, which allows us to create what we think is the best Japanese writing app out there!

Japanese writing uses three different scripts; Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Skritter offers all three and you can learn them through our “decks” (similar to a card deck) based on topics and difficulty.

Deck examples:
- Survival Japanese (for traveling in Japan)
- Food and drinks (learn to understand the menus at your favorite Japanese restaurant with delicious sushi, ramen, and other dishes)
- Cultural topics like Samurai Japanese
- More advanced topics like foreign policy
- And many more…

First, you learn a character’s meaning, then practice drawing it and before you know it, you’ll want to learn thousands of characters, and words like these two happy users:

“If I could only keep one app on my iPod, this would be it without a doubt. Skritter will change your life!”
― Wendy Werneth, UN Translator

“Learning to write characters has never been so fun. From writing zero to 2000+ characters in six months!”
― Brian Jackson, Economist

Amazing new updates

I’ve had Skritter for a long time now and I thought it was good before. But now with the new platform and options for studying, it’s gotten so much better beyond my wildest dreams! My favourite is testing just the words that I get incorrect - so effective. I highly recommend this app.

Thank you so much for the raving review! We are so happy that Skritter has helped your language journey. Would it be okay if we use this review in some future campaigns (possibly a social media image or an email)? We only share the review, not the name. You can let us know at team@skritter.com. Happy studies!

Um... yeah

The fact that this app is so interactive is awesome. Learning to read and write the characters is going to be so incredibly helpful if you plan on immersing yourself in the language. Totally recommending this.

Réponse du développeur ,

Thanks for your awesome review! We of course agree learning to read and write is very important to mastering a language. Even if you plan on primarily speaking versus reading or writing, it's extremely valuable and will help you reach mastery. If there's anything that you hope to see in the app (or just if you have any thoughts), please let us know at team@skritter.com. Thanks again for your review!

Poor design for iPad

The character input area is enormous on an iPad, to the point that it makes it extremely difficult to input strokes accurately. I don’t write letters four inches high, why would I want to learn to write kanji that way? It seems like it would be bad for retention as well, as you’re engaging gross motor skills versus fine.

Réponse du développeur ,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! I'll pass it on to the rest of the team. If you ever have any questions, you can reach us at team@skritter.com.
