At its core, Scout is a social media platform that allows users to discover and share stunning locations around the world.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Browse the Home Feed for locations in your vicinity as well as those posted by your favorite Scouters. Use the explore page to scout locations for upcoming trips or your next shoot. Once you’ve selected the perfect location, ‘Unlock’ the exact coordinates, shooting tips, and other advice provided by the Scouter.

WHY SCOUT?
Gone are the days of driving or ubering around, wasting precious time and money to find the right backdrop. Scout streamlines the creative process of endlessly searching for new and exciting locations in your home city or abroad.

WHO CAN BECOME A SCOUTER?
Anyone! Scout gives everyone the opportunity to get involved and earn in the industry, allowing you to feel valued for your unique perspective. We are a community that bridges the gap between location scouts, users, and content creators.

HOW ARE SCOUTERS REWARDED?
Beyond its core functionality, Scout provides an incentivizing platform that rewards you for curating and sharing unique locations. Scouters receive a commission each time a user ‘Unlocks’ your location - monetizing the creative effort that goes into finding worthy locations.

HIGHLIGHTS & FEATURES

Home Feed:
-Discover locations that are in your neighborhood
-See locations posted by your favorite Scouters and influencers
-See how many times a location has been unlocked and preview it before unlocking
-Share locations on other platforms

Explore Page:
-Search for locations in a specific city or region
-Filter based on how far you are willing to travel
-Find Scouters anywhere in the world and follow them to see all their locations
-Save/bookmark locations to unlock later (ie. for planning a trip!)

Unlocking a Location:
-Purchase unlocks In-App
-Use unlocks to get the coordinates and shooting tips for your perfect locations
-Tap the “Scout It!” button to open the location in Maps with directions on how to get there from your current location
-Rate the location and comment to help future users with additional tips or advice

Posting a Location:
-Choose photos from your gallery or take a shot on location
-GPS coordinates are automatically entered (if the photo contains location metadata)
-Link to the social post associated with the location (ie. Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, etc.)
-Provide information about the location such as time of year, lighting conditions, and more
-Connect your PayPal account and every time a user unlocks your location, you earn a commission!

Profile Page:
-Customize your profile with a profile picture, tags, and short bio to let other users know what you’re all about!
-View all locations that you have scouted, those that you’ve unlocked, and any that you saved for later
-Browse users that you follow and those that follow you
-Access your unlock store to purchase unlocks
-Share your profile on other platforms to bring in followers that will unlock your locations!

Money Gouging, creates a gatekeeping community

1. the concept itself is a great idea but turns out to find each location you have to unlock it for $1.99USD. there are bundles for 30 locations for $44USD but it seems to create a gatekeeping community on social media, especially when the whole idea of this app is to NOT gatekeep? 2. they are reluctant to disclose/ there is no clear answer on how much each creator will earn when someone unlocks their location so it seems a bit shady 3. they claim that verified users would earn a higher percentage. to be a verified user, you’ll have to “constantly contributing unique and exciting locations to the community”. however, the only verified users right now are friends of the founder herself and the majority of them have only displayed limited engagement as opposed to the “constantly contributing unique and exciting locations to the community”. 4. you can only check out the money you’ve earned once you accumulated $50USD+. with a location at a price of $2USD, you could only make that much when over a minimum of 100+ people have unlocked your location. 100+ is an estimate but it is doubtful to even say that the app would pay creators over 50% of the earnings from each unlocked location. 5. with this gatekeeping behaviour, it is highly unlikely that it is a sustainable app for creators to pay to scout each location and the team knows it. by setting a min. $50USD cash out limit, they know that the majority of creators are unable to reach that $50USD limit despite constant efforts.

The app doesn’t work

I’m not sure how people can even give the app a 5 star rating when I’ve tried multiple times to make an account and it doesn’t even work. What are you guys even rating?

Good If You’re Willing To Pay

The idea of this app is super helpful & interesting, but the fact that you have to pay every time you want to unlock a location is ridiculous; might as well just have a fee for the app itself and make everything within it free!
