Great to start a new language!

Thank you very much! This app is awesome! I could learn a lot of vocabulary with this clever system of games! Of course, I’m sad there is no grammar and sentence building lessons, but anyway, now I can make myself understood just with the many words I’ve learned! May I suggest a category of action verbs? This would be a nice add! Thanks again!

We really appreciate you saying that uTalk is awesome and a great way to start a new language, thank you! 🙏 🥰 We are also grateful for your feedback about grammar which we thought long and hard about when we designed the app. What we decided was that far too many of us give up on language learning because we are faced with learning too much, too soon. So we decided to focus instead on making it quick and easy for beginners to get started in a new language by giving them the key words and phrases they needed to exchange a few words, share an understanding and have fun. This way, we reasoned, our customers would be more motivated to continue learning and could go on to cover the tougher stuff like grammar further down the line. (This is a little like how we all started learning our first language.) All that said, you sound like a more experienced learner who’s already ready to move onto the next level and we congratulate you. 👏 👏 Long-term we would like to cater for people like yourself but at the moment we are rushed off our feet trying to keep up with demand for new languages to be added to the app. 😅 Thanks for your support. Some of the letters in Sinhala are wrong. Also some words.

Sinhala has a few mistakes

For every language we record, we always work with two native speaking translators who work independently on each other to translate the 2,500+ words and phrases on our app. Our Languages Manager then compares the two translations and discusses any points of difference with our translators so we choose the most appropriate word or phrase for our audience. We then employ a further two native speakers (one male and one female) to record the approved translations, usually in our London studio. But we are definitely not complacent and would appreciate you letting languages@utalk.com
know exactly which words you believe are incorrect so we can investigate and make corrections, if necessary. We take accuracy very seriously and value the support of our customers because, despite the best will in the world, mistakes can happen; equally words and phrases in a language can vary because of different dialects. Great app!

I bought the Canadian French program and it has been great, except that the voices saying the phrases and/or words can sometimes be way to fast and that at times can make it harder to learn. Aside from that though, I really like it.
