Description
Vinegar is a Safari extension that replaces the YouTube player with a minimal HTML video tag.
It removes ads, restores picture-in-picture, and keeps videos playing in the background.
Note: The "can read information from webpages" text in the permission section is just unfortunate wording. Vinegar needs access to the web page to find the YouTube player and replace it. It's not doing anything creepy!
(By the way, check out Vinegar's companion app, Baking Soda. It's basically a less powerful version of Vinegar, but it works on all websites other than YouTube.)

Really buggy. Have to baby it
I was hopeful about this app but it doesn't work great most of the time. Firstly, no HDR or 4K. But that aside I sometimes have to reload the page several times before the video plays. Even when it is playing it often just stops and even a couple reloads doesn't fix it. The pain of it all isn't worth it at the moment.
Makes YouTube on iOS usable

Thanks! You can set the default video quality to "Best" in Vinegar's settings. To access Vinegar's settings, simply tap the puzzle piece icon on Safari's address bar, then select Vinegar.
