Description

WiFi Signal lets you monitor your Wi-Fi network’s status and signal quality, notifying you about changes in your Wi-Fi connection.

WiFi Signal can also recommend alternative channels for your network, thus avoiding signal overlapping and channel conflicts resulting in connectivity issues and performance degradation.

FEATURES

• Simple, straightforward user interface
• 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz band support
• Fully customizable, multi-line status icon display options
• Annotations to quickly identify different access points
• Detachable popover window
• Automatic channel recommendations
• Accurate dBm to percentage (%) conversion
• Real-time graphs for signal strength and noise level, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), transmit rate, or MCS index (if supported)
• Signal quality ratings based on SNR measurements
• Notifications and logging of changes in your Wi-Fi network connection, such as when the computer joins or disconnects from a network, moves to a different access point, or when data rate or channel configuration changes are detected
• Comprehensive app's help describes how to use the tool the most effective way
• Light and dark mode support

Requires a Mac with built-in Wi-Fi. External Wi-Fi adapters are not supported.

For a more comprehensive analysis of the Wi-Fi environment, consider WiFi Explorer, also available in the Mac App Store.

Damn good App

Have been using this app for iMac for about a year now, and as far as I’m able to ascertain, the numbers I see are accurate. I’m using a WiFi connection from Mac to internet, and the reported D/L speed is probably exaggerated, because my Speedtest app on my iPad shows a D/L of around 200 Mips while WiFi Signal typically reports over 400 Mips.
Other than that, the app sits at the top of my desktop and constantly reports on the health of my connection, and suggests a better connection/channel when warranted. Also, its updated when needed.

Dear Dasbot123456,

Thanks for your review. One comment though: WiFi Signal doesn't report download speeds or Internet throughput. It reports the current transmit data rate (in Megabits per second) between the computer and the access point, which is the maximum theoretical speed you can achieve for sending data to the access point given the current link conditions (signal strength, distance, etc.). The actual transmit speed will be lower, especially if your Internet speed is lower. Hence the difference you're seeing.

Adrian

Perfect app to check if your Wi-Fi is the problem

I was looking for a way to determine if my Zoom video conferencing problems were due to my home Network. This did the magic. Check Signal Strength (%>40), Noise (%<10) and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR, dB>25) to verify that you have good quality. I love this display pattern: %P-%Q-%R.

Feature request: I'd love the display pattern to include %Z = Short debug information shown when there is a problem ("High noise", "SNR low", "Signal Strength low", etc.) and %Y = Signal Quality ("Poor", "Good", etc.)

I'd love a reference on MCS Index.

I'd love a more complete wifi debugging guide. I'm avail to discuss these @malartre.

Love this app

Highly recommend. The strength of WiFi signal varies in different rooms of my house, and fluctuates on various days. This app helps me pick what room is best to be in, and whether to be on 2.4 or 5G.
