There’s nothing romantic about an IOU. In fact, there’s nothing particularly sexy about managing your finances. But with Our Expenses, a personal finance app pitched at couples, at least you can put an end to needling texts about the water bill, and whose turn it is to pay for pizza.
It’s a simple interface. Create an account, then invite your partner to join—you’ll both have access to a shared dashboard, where you can record debts and see at a glance who owes who what, and why. Input a shared expense, recording the date and a note—if it’s a big bill you might want to include a heart emoji—and then categorize it by type (holidays, food, etc).
Our Expenses will then split it right down the middle, showing you how much your partner owes you, and how much you’ve spent together over the past 30 days.
In this way, it operates both as a bill splitter and a budgeting tool. It’s easy to see if one person isn’t pulling their financial weight, but it’s also easy to see if you’re exceeding a monthly shared budget.
For cohabiting couples, it can be an easy way to keep track of those little grocery trips that add up, and can sometimes be shouldered unfairly by one person.
In Premium mode, you can set recurring expenses—like your internet bill—so you don’t need to waste time inputting them every time. Quick, efficient and fair—leaving you far more time for the romantic stuff.
