LIFE HACK

Early to Bed, Early to Rise…

Turning in—and waking—early seem easy, but if it were, more of us would be doing it. Making this a regular habit can take some major changes to your routine; here are a few ways to kickstart that change.

Find Your Morning Mojo

Waking up early is great. With no interruptions or distractions, the morning truly belongs to you. A sense of purpose is a huge driving force for getting out of bed. Find that motivation with a little goal setting with apps like Things 3 and Chaos Control.

Put your woes to bed

For most people, hitting the sack at 2 a.m. and waking up at 6 isn’t realistic (or healthy). When it comes to getting more sleep, a reasonable bedtime is half the battle.

The iOS Bedtime alarm is a very simple way to help manage it; find it within the Clock app. Just set when you’d like to wake up and how many hours you want to sleep. The alarm will remind you when it’s time to turn in, and then wake you in the morning.

But this alone might not be enough to retrain the most nocturnal of night owls. For extra reinforcement, Due can deliver repetitive sleep reminders; Sleeptown helps target late-night mobile use; and the soothing nature sounds of Tide aid in falling asleep. Remember, long-engrained sleep habits won’t change overnight. Keep at it or you’ll never break the “late to bed, late to rise” cycle.

Real Eye-openers

With goal setting and sleep covered, the only thing left is to wake up on time. Let Sleep Cycle analyze the depth of your sleep phases, and then gently wake you at the best time. Or choose Tide and slowly wake up to a chorus of birds or the crashing of surf. If you need a more heavy-handed nudge, try Wakeout or Alarmy, because nothing gets your blood pumping like the physical movements required to turn off these apps.
