Unless you just won the lottery, managing your money isn’t usually fun. That’s where Fortune City comes in: It combines expense tracking with a city-building game to transform personal finance from dutiful task into enjoyable diversion.
Unlike some other finance trackers, Fortune City doesn’t link to your bank accounts. You manually enter each transaction—and when you do, a new building is constructed in your digital town.
If you buy lunch in the real world, a food stand pops up in your digital city. Entering an entertainment purchase builds a toy store. When you inevitably duplicate a building, you can consolidate the two to create a new business (two food stands merge into a family restaurant). Soon enough your city is packed with flourishing shops—each a representation of how you spent your money.
Fortune City also includes serious, granular tools, since we shouldn’t take money management lightly. Tap the small circle icon to see comprehensive breakdowns of your finances. Consult the Categories tab for a pie chart indicating where you spend the most money (Shopping, Housing, Drinks, etc.).
Ever wonder which day is your spendiest? The Statistics tab shows a bar graph of your daily spending over the course of a month—which can lead to some interesting findings. Spoiler alert: Weekends are expensive!
