Find Jurassic Dinos & Fight!
A ferocious T. rex is on the loose, stomping around the park! But despite its terrifying roar, everyone’s running to see it. Like you, they know they might be able to capture its DNA, breed a dino of their own, and send it into battle.
Welcome to Jurassic World Alive, the location-based AR (augmented reality) game. “It’s about the wonder and the terror of dinosaurs,” says Chris Heatherly, executive VP for games and digital platforms at Universal, which is releasing the blockbuster companion film. “They can kill you without a moment’s thought.”
Go on the Hunt
To start, check the in-game map—which is locked to your real-world location—for dinosaurs roaming nearby. When you spot one, tap it to deploy a drone to its location. As your quadcopter hovers above the beast, you’ll take aim and fire darts to collect the dino’s DNA.
More interesting specimens are no doubt lurking just beyond the range of your map; to find them, venture outside!
Splice a Few Genes
Once you’ve collected enough DNA samples, head to the Creation Lab by tapping the Collection tab. Here you’ll get a close look at each dinosaur to assess its strengths and weaknesses for the battles that are to come.
Whenever possible, those traits are based on the latest paleontological research, with the hybrids you breed sharing the original dinosaurs’ characteristics. (An Einiosaurus and a Nundasuchus make a formidable pairing.) For total domination, evolve your dinos into even stronger creations, known as super hybrids, which are hybrids of hybrids.
Head Into Battle
With at least four dinosaurs in your stable, you’ll be able to pit them against another player’s. The team with the right mix of strength and health prevails. Finding the right balance is key. The Euoplocephalus' strong defense makes it a solid pick, for example, while the Velociraptor’s speed is unmatched.
Each battle level has its own gorgeously illustrated environment, evocative of the movie's settings. Win three of these real-time battles to unlock new arenas and dinosaurs for your Creation Lab.
Now Go Tell the World
Want to astound your friends? Share a video of the time you ran into a T. rex just down the road from your house. In the Collection tab, select a dino and tap “AR,” then head to a well-lit spot. You’ll see the dinosaur right in your own environment. You can even scale it, making it so large that it looms over your house or small enough to sit on your sofa. While recording a movie of this outlandish scene, tap your screen to see the dino bare its teeth and swoosh its tail.
The name Jurassic World Alive couldn’t be more apt.
