In the fast-paced card battler Clash Royale, building, testing, and fine-tuning decks is only part of the fun. It’s the game’s Draft Challenges that truly put your skills to the test.

The goal: Create the best deck on the fly by picking one of two random cards each round, while sending the other to your opponent. Do you go with the Giant or the Knight? Wizard or Witch?

There are no right answers, but employ these strategies and you’ll be a Draft Challenges champ in no time.

An average elixir cost of about four is a good target, so in this case it’s OK to go with the giant.

1. Watch Your Elixir

It’s easy to get fixated on heavy hitters such as Royal Giant or P.E.K.K.A., but try to keep a running tally of elixir costs.

Draft too many expensive units and you risk driving your average elixir cost sky-high, slowing down your deck. While it might seem you’re gifting your opponent a great unit by opting for a lower-cost card, keeping your deck nimble is more important.

2. Counterattack!

Clash Royale’s many cards are impeccably balanced. Although some are staples in most decks (who doesn’t love the defence of the Valkyrie?), every unit has at least one counter: a card that can quickly wipe out another.

As a rule of thumb, when given the choice between a powerful card and its counter, always pick the counter. Minion Horde or Arrows? Take the Arrows!

Draft well and your enemy’s towers won’t stand a chance.

3. Find Your Balance

A great draft deck has a little of everything: a tank, a defensive unit, a spell, a support unit. Though you can only pick four, try to aim for variety and balance.

Grabbed Fireball in round two? Consider passing on Poison in round four. You’ve got more coming your way from your opponent—and they’re definitely not in your corner.
