Here are some titles you won’t want to miss.

First Contact

Produced by Animiki See Digital Production, one of Canada’s leading creators of Indigenous content, this documentary profiles six Canadians who are challenged about their pre-existing perceptions and prejudices about Indigenous peoples by experiencing Indigenous Canadian life first-hand.

Moosemeat & Marmalade

A love of great food can sometimes be the easiest way to bring together divergent cultures. Moosemeat & Marmalade does just that with its two chefs—bush cook Art Napoleon and classically trained Dan Hayes. Together they create and compare delicious Indigenous and European cuisine with easy-to-learn techniques—while having many laughs along the way. Produced by Mooswa Films, it’s available in English, French, and Cree.

Tribal

APTN’s original one-hour crime drama, Tribal, explores First Nation crime stories based on real-life events. Featuring an award-winning cast, the show pairs two unlikely detectives who have to work together to solve cases that touch on missing and murdered Indigenous people, healing lodge justice, and pipeline controversies.

Spirit Talker

This APTN original documentary follows Mi’kmaq medium Shawn Leonard as he travels across Canada helping people connect with loved ones who have passed on, while re-establishing his own bond to his family roots and ancestral home.

Nations at War

A thought-provoking historical documentary series, Nations at War tells the story of battles fought by European and Indigenous nations beginning in the 15th century. Each episode focuses on the battles Indigenous peoples participated in to protect their territories, which contributed to mass migration and the reshaping of what is now known as North America. Narrated by Indigenous actor David H. Lyle, the series shows the vital roles of Indigenous leaders like Tecumseh, Louis Riel, and Pitikwahanapiwiyin, a.k.a. Poundmaker, in shaping the continent as we know it today.
