MAJOR UPDATE

What’s New in macOS Ventura

Take a tour of the latest OS.

macOS Ventura is here, bringing fresh ways to boost your productivity and creativity. Check out a few of its coolest new features—along with apps and games to get the most out of them.

Organize Your Apps in Stage Manager

By automatically grouping apps you frequently use together—and letting you customize and create your own groups—Stage Manager gives you an all-new way to stay focused on the task at hand. For example, you might have a group for Microsoft Outlook and Things when planning your day, Safari and Craft when doing online research, and Twitter and Amazon Prime Video to live-tweet your favourite show.

With Stage Manager, when you switch to an app group (by clicking its thumbnail on the left of the screen), only windows of the apps in the group appear.

Take Focus Further

Whether you’re working, playing, or spending time with family, setting up a Focus is a great way to establish boundaries. With the new Focus filters in macOS Ventura, apps can customize what you see based on the Focus you’ve enabled. For example, configure Fantastical to show only your personal appointments on the weekend, or have Agenda display projects in the Work category only during business hours. Try the feature with these compatible apps.

Sync Your Extensions in Safari

Safari extensions enhance your browser by blocking ads, translating web pages, finding online coupons, and much more. With macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16, when you install a compatible extension, it shows (in Extensions settings) as available to download on your other devices, and its enabled/disabled status syncs everywhere it’s installed.

Follow your friends and their game activity in the new Game Center.

Challenge Your Friends in Game Center

Ventura’s redesigned Game Center dashboard makes it easier to see which games your friends are playing, as well as their achievements, in updated games.

Sketch Together with Freeform

The new productivity app Freeform gives you and your collaborators a flexible shared canvas. View others’ contributions in real time as they sketch and make notes. You can also add nearly any kind of file—images, video, audio, PDFs, documents, and web links—to the canvas and preview it inline (iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, or macOS 13.1 or newer required).

And Much More...

Don’t miss these other new features that make Ventura the best macOS yet:

Continuity Camera: Use your iPhone as a webcam—simply put it on a stand nearby to unlock powerful video effects. With Center Stage, you’ll always be centered in the frame, and Studio Light and Portrait mode ensure you look your best. Or use Desk View to show your face and a demo on your desk at the same time.

Messages: Edit sent messages, unsend recent messages, and mark a message as unread so you can respond later. Collaborate on notes, presentations, reminders, Safari Tab Groups, and more right from within Messages, and use SharePlay to watch or listen to media together while chatting.

iCloud Shared Photo Library: Share photos and videos with up to five family members using a separate library seamlessly integrated into the Photos app—everyone can view, edit, and organize.

Weather: New on Mac, the Weather app takes advantage of your Mac’s larger display with detailed forecast info, animated backgrounds, and gorgeous weather maps.

Mail: Schedule messages for later sending, use Remind Me to deal with a message at a future date and time, and unsend a message immediately after you send it if you realize you forgot something important.

Reminders: Pin your favorite lists for faster access, create templates for frequently used lists like a packing list, include rich text in notes, and use the new Completed list to view all completed tasks—including the time and date you checked each item off.

Accessibility: Get Live Captions for video and audio and in FaceTime calls, type to speak in any audio or video conversation, and combine inputs from multiple game controllers to work together in games.
